In order to take care of an order of information of the United Nations’ General Assembly, on the efficiency of the taken measures by the organizations in relation to selection of staff, the ICSC carried out a global survey. The survey was carry out in 2008, in collaboration between ICSC, the organizations and the staff federations and included civil servants of all categories and duty stations. The main conclusions to which were arrived after the analysis of the received answers are:

  1. The reputation of the United Nations System is attractive for candidates looking for employment.
  2. Despite the mentioned in 1, 40% of the survey ones mentioned that they are seriously considering leaving the United Nations due to a lack of motivation. A considerable percentage mentioned a certain degree of frustration due to the lack of promotions, professional growth and opportunity to use abilities and competences.
  3. If a significant part of the personnel feels demotivated, this hits negatively in the efficiency of the organization. This generates a challenge for the organizations in the sense to invest in maintaining the reputation generated by the image of United Nations and maximizing the positive experiences of working within the system.
